There are many reasons why many people all over the world want to visit China. The country, being one of the oldest civilizations in the world, opens new windows for visitors who would like to experience unique landscapes, architecture, customs and delicacies. You may want to visit different parts of China for various reasons, but you may want to take note of some pointers that would help you to be prepared and have a more pleasant experience while exploring the country. Here are some China travel tips that will help you.

What to pack

Making preparations for your trip to China regarding what you should bring is essential for an enjoyable trip. A pair of good walking shoes is absolutely essential, especially if you visit the main attractions as there is a lot of walking involved. The Great Wall of China, for example, has many rough surfaces and lots of steps.

You will also be exposed to the elements in open places like the Forbidden City, so an umbrella or raincoat is essential. Insect repellent is also helpful in keeping the pests away during hot summer months. Most importantly, you should dress according to the weather conditions that apply to the specific time and place of your visit.

Shopping

If you are visiting different cities or regions during your trip, it is recommended that you spread your buys out such that you can purchase the unique products of each place. For example, Xinjiang is famous for carpets while Suzhou is well-known for its silk. Do feel free to bargain to get the best prices for your goods, except in malls and department stores.

Dining

China is a haven for food lovers with a taste for both the familiar and exotic. It is not uncommon to find dishes that make use of many different plant and animal parts, thus usually evoking a variety of reactions in foreigners. Every region has its own specialty dishes and different ways of cooking and preparing that will deliver a range of satisfying culinary experiences to the discerning gourmand. You are not required to tip, although a service charge may be included in some cases.

Safety and security

China as a whole is a safe country to visit, with many helpful and friendly locals. However do take precaution at night and in crowded places, so do carefully safeguard your belongings and valuables and keep them where they are visible. Be careful not to flaunt your jewelry or other indicators of wealth unnecessarily. Most importantly, do not fall prey to scams by keeping your wits about and not following strangers.

How to get around on your own without getting lost

If you are out exploring on your own, it is often a wise idea to bring along your hotel room card as the printed information of the hotel will help you to find your way back if you are lost. When taking a taxi to get around, do bear in mind that many taxi drivers do not know English. Hence it is advisable to get assistance in writing down the name of your destination in Chinese so that he knows where you are going.

First of all, we all know China as a beautiful country with a unique culture that is hard to understand; however, you may want to find the answers this summer by taking a trip to China. If you are worried about the language barrier, there is always the option of choosing a reliable tour operator to assist you in planning your tour itinerary. They arrange everything from hotel accommodations, tour guides and transportation within China so you don’t have to worry about any problems during your vacation. With their experience in the Chinese tourism industry and the 25 Chinese heritage sites listed on the UNESCO list, reliable China tour operators have travel packages specially designed for your visiting pleasure in China’s most beautiful cities.

Popular destinations in China have different attractions and sightseeing, so planning your China tour is essential. A common tour package purchased by many tourists is the Beijing-Xian-Shanghai tour. This tour package allows you to discover and see the historical city of Beijing and its famous monuments; you also get to see the Terracotta Army and Big Wild Goose Pagoda in Xian and finally explore the shopping streets of cosmopolitan Shanghai.

Beijing, the country’s capital is famous for its historical sightseeing and monuments which include the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven and the National Museum. This museum has all the materials you need, in order to know about China’s history and culture. During your spare time, you can have the opportunity to sample Beijing’s special delicacy – “roast duck” and witness a typical Beijing Opera. The Beijing Opera is an arts and cultural show which showcases a combination of singing, recitals, acrobatics, dancing and martial arts in order to narrate a story. This is a show you have to witness if you travel to Beijing.

Things to do in Shanghai include shopping on the famous Nanjing Road, visiting the Oriental Pearl tower and talking a stroll along the streets of the French Concession area. Xian is the ancient Imperial city of China. This is the site of the Terracotta Warriors and Army considered to be the Eighth wonder of the world. One of the most significant archaeological excavations of the 20th century, these warriors is a representation of China’s creativity and craftsmanship. Yunnan is one of China’s provinces very much inclined to tourists and foreigners; this is because of the mild climate and peaceful environment it always have. Known for its wonderful landscape with unspoiled natural resources, rugged terrains and a rich cultural history, the ethnic minorities of Yunnan are one of her greatest treasures. This province is the melting pot of different cultures and ethnic tribes from across China.

Traveling to China is a life time experience and an ideal way to understand the land of cultural and geographic schisms. China offers immense opportunities for its visitors to make their travel quite interesting. Whether you are interested in Chinese culture, Chinese history, or simply to enjoy Chinese scenery, a trip through the Chinese mainland has it all.

If you don’t have a couple of years for exploring the Chinese mainland, it is a good idea to follow a loose itinerary. Some good suggestions along these lines include a trip from the Chinese capital to Tibet through Xi’an’s terracotta warriors, following the traditional Silk route, sailing down the Yangtze River (which provides the most rarest and beautiful views of Mother Nature), or traveling around the Dr Seuss landscape of Guangxi Province.

Beijing has been crowned as the country’s capital for approximately 500 years. The city boasts some of the beautiful sights such as the off-limits palace of Ming and Qing emperors, the Forbidden City, their eunuch servants, princesses and harems. The Summer Palace, one of the major attractions, was constructed in the late Qing period. China’s renowned imperial legacy – the Great Wall – starts from Beijing. The wall can be viewed from numerous places, however, majority of the visitors approach it from Beijing.

The sacred mountains of China have always been major pilgrimage destinations for many centuries and all these mountains feature well marked trails to the summits. There are also stairways carved into rock faces, and sights en-route includes inscriptions and poems and several temples. The sunrise at the summit is inevitably one of the most noted attractions. Huangshan, Emeishan, and Taishan are the most popular mountains majority of the foreign tourists never miss in their China travel.

China also prides for being home to the largest Buddha statue in the world. The Grand Buddha at Leshan in Sichuan Province is 71 m high and carved into a cliff face which overlooks the meeting of the Dadu and Min rivers. China’s well known collection of European architecture is lined up facing the sea on the Bund in Shanghai. Xiamen in Fujian Province features outstanding collections of colonial architecture, on Gulangyr Island.
